TAMPA - Blake High School senior Aileen Painter is true to her name.
She beat out about 150 high school students nationwide for the honor of having her painting featured on the holiday cards to be distributed by about 15 Holland & Knight law offices.
Her whimsical oil, "Children Sledding," features a child sliding down a snowbank while two smaller figures and a bird look on.
"It has a real Currier & Ives look to it," said Angela Ruth, executive director of the Holland & Knight Charitable Foundation. "And there's an animated version of it that we will send out to some clients."
The contest is offered through the firm's Opening Doors for Children program, which since 1995 has provided books, summer camp and mentoring to needy students in areas where Holland & Knight has offices.
Painter is the second winner from Tampa.
"It's something to be really proud of," said Ruth, wife of Tampa Tribune columnist Dan Ruth. "It's really hard to do because we're asking people to design a card that is not about Christmas per se. We recommend a winter scene or a festive look.
"It's funny. Painter was able to interpret that better than kids from the North," she said.
Painter will keep her original painting, and a poster-size reproduction will be given to Blake High.
