Holiday Season Offers So Much To Celebrate

TAMPA - This weekend and next bring another slate of holiday events as social groups and organizations wrap up the year. Among the offerings:

•The Haitian Association Foundation of Tampa Bay's annual holiday gala is today at the Doubletree Hotel, 4500 W. Cypress St.

Cocktails are at 6 p.m., dinner and the program are at 7 p.m., and dancing begins at 9 p.m. Tickets are $60 and available by calling (813) 416-2558.

•The Tampa American Association of University Women's interest groups will have luncheons.

The Prose, Poetry, Places and People Group will have a potluck luncheon and cookie exchange at 11 a.m. today at the South Tampa home of Lee Schmoll. For information, call Schmoll at (813) 831-6764.

The Ellen Richards Group will have its holiday luncheon, with a Christmas story presented by past President Susan Barksdale, at noon Wednesday at the Tampa Yacht & Country Club, 5320 Interbay Blvd. For information, call Adele Ida Walter at (813) 932-6902.

•The Edmund Sheffield Chapter Colonial Dames XVII Century's Christmas buffet luncheon will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Palma Ceia Golf & Country Club, 1601 S. DeBartolo Foundation Boosts Award Money

TAMPA - The DeBartolo Family Foundation recently announced that its Spirit of Humanity Award will increase to $25,000 in 2008.

For five years, the foundation has presented $10,000 and a trophy to grass-roots charitable organizations in the Tampa Bay area.

The increase was announced by Lisa DeBartolo, executive vice president of DeBartolo Holdings. The foundation is a not-for-profit corporation created by the Edward J. DeBartolo Jr. family to benefit local communities.
