TAMPA - Kent Roberts has earned the rank of Eagle Scout after completing all requirements, including 100 hours for a service project.

Roberts, 18, received the honor at First Christian Church in Hyde Park on Nov. 24. For his Eagle service project, he and several friends painted and rehabilitated a residence at Metropolitan Ministries, 2002 N. Florida Ave.

Roberts has earned 22 merit badges and is a member of Troop 4. He joined the Cub Scouts in second grade and the Boy Scouts in eighth grade. He said he has hiked more than 250 miles of the Appalachian Trail over five summers.

"Boy Scouts has given me a chance to learn good leadership skills," Roberts said.
