WEST SHORE - About 100 women spent their lunchtime Tuesday learning about their health and how they can help other women in the community.

Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar hosted the kickoff for the Sister to Sister National Women's Healthy Heart Campaign.

Mayor Pam Iorio and University of South Florida President Judy Genshaft are the campaign's honorary chairwomen.

Stephanie Amberg, vice president of public relations for OSI Restaurant Partners, and Liana Lopez, the city's public affairs director, are the co-chairwomen. Kristin Passath, vice president of EventMakers Corp., is helping oversee the campaign.

Sister to Sister was founded by Irene Pollin, co-owner of the NBA's Washington Wizards.

Tampa was selected this year to join 17 U.S. cities in hosting an annual women's heart health campaign and free screenings for heart disease. The event will be March 4 at the Tampa Convention Center.

Passath said the luncheon was to introduce "movers and shakers" to Sister to Sister and encourage them to get others involved.

Pat Shannon, Sister to Sister's national director of community relations, said heart disease is "the silent killer among us. It kills more of us than all the cancers."

The attendees were screened for blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar.

Other committee members are: Renee Benton, Beth Brown, Christine Burdick, Jill Cappadoro, Barbara Casey, Colleen Chappell, Melinda Chavez, Faye Culp, Debra Faulk, Joyce Fisk, Julia Freeman, Brenda Geoghagan, Irene Guy, Lori Hudson, Dianne Jacob, Rhea Law, Nina Mahoney, Angier Miller, Cyndy Miller, Gwen Miller, Sandra Murman, Tribune publisher Denise Palmer, Mindy Snyder, Barbara Sparks-McGlinchy, Carol Todd Thomas, JoAnn Urofsky, Elizabeth Vocke and Linda Zipkin.
