TAMPA - With her children grown and out of the house, Carol Lynn Berg found herself with more time on her hands.

"The house was very empty," she said. "It was very quiet."

To take up that time, she decided to open Carol Lynn's Collection, a men's and women's fashion accessories store at 3345 S. Dale Mabry Highway, the former home of the Pop and Sons diner.

Berg, who worked at The Missing Piece at Britton Plaza, said she looked at buying a franchise but decided to create a store of her own.

"It's completely mine," she said.

The store sells an eclectic selection of jewelry, belts, wallets, handbags, hats, scarves and more. There's a wall of $10 necklaces and displays of $15 rings and earrings, Berg said.

"I tried to shop so that anybody in South Tampa can shop here," she said.

The store is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Home And Garden Business Blooming

There's a lot going on at Bloom Home and Garden.

The business, owned by Julie and Chad Lohoefener and Julie's mother, Evie Burks, has opened a second store and plans to relocate the original store, 5025 Bayshore Blvd., to the former Green With Envy site on South MacDill Avenue.

The new store, 3100 W. San Carlos St., features indoor plants and flowers, as well as accessories such as tables, benches and fountains.

"They need minimal sunlight," said Burks' daughter Robin Burks. "The others at the Bayshore store are primarily outdoors."

She said the business opened five years ago and needed more space.

"People love coming here," she said. "It's a social thing for people."

The San Carlos store is open from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Auto Repair Shop Gets New Owner
Tim Healy has experience working on cars in South Tampa.

He now has his own auto repair shop.

Healy recently took over Bay to Bay Automotive, 3320 W. Bay to Bay Blvd.

Healy said he has been in the auto repair business for 27 years, 20 of them in the United States. He came to America from Ireland in 1986, originally working in New York.

He moved to Florida to escape the cold.

"The auto business is rough up there," he said. "There's a lot of ice and snow."

He said he spent 10 years at Van's Automotive Service on Henderson Boulevard and worked at various repair shops after Van's closed.

"I know a lot of customers here in South Tampa," he said.

His shop repairs foreign and domestic cars, including high-end vehicles such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Jaguar.

"I have a Rolls-Royce customer that comes in all the time," he said.

The shop is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
