TAMPA - The city council has continued a hearing to rezone a former West Tampa cigar factory until 6 p.m. Nov. 8.
Intelident Solutions, a Tampa-based dental-management company, wants to turn the factory, 1202 N. Howard Ave., into its corporate headquarters. It also will ask the council to rezone nearby property it owns for parking.
The rezoning hearing was scheduled for Oct. 11, but Intelident asked that the issue be continued because only four of seven council members were present. The company would have needed a 4-0 vote for rezoning approval.
The three-story, 34,000-square-foot factory was built in 1904. Intelident bought it in January 2006 from North Hyde Park Lofts for $1.5 million, property records show.
The company estimates it will take 12 to 18 months to rehabilitate the building.
The council designated the building as a local historical landmark at a final hearing Oct. 11.
