TAMPA - Nearly 40 prints by South Tampa artist Suzanne Camp Crosby, Tampa's 2004 photographer laureate, are on display through Sept. 28 at the Crossroads Gallery on the Clearwater campus of St. Petersburg College.
The works are organized thematically.
'The gallery is sort of broken up into little intimate rooms or sections,' Crosby said. 'Different themes naturally emerged for different sections.'
Though related in subject, the works represent a wide span of years, including some from her graduate school days.
'And there are brand-new works in the show that are not tied to anything,' Crosby said. 'They're all car images, from 2003 to the present.'
Crosby is considered a directorial photographer.
'Instead of just taking a picture of something, I put objects and assemble them together in a certain way,' she said. 'So I'm directing every little detail of the photo. There's only one photo in the show that I didn't do a thing to, and that's really rare for me.'
That photo, 'Destruction,' shows a house being torn down, with just a chair on what's left of the porch.
'It looked like something I would have staged,' Crosby said.
Crosby will discuss her works and her photography from 5 to 6 p.m. Sept. 26 at the gallery, 2465 Drew St., Clearwater. The talk and exhibit are free.

Tampa Artist Emporium Sponsors Fundraiser
An art shop in Hyde Park Village has a mission to help local charities while selling art.
This time around, the Tampa Artist Emporium, 1618 Snow Ave., is supporting the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
From 5 to 9 p.m. Sept. 28, the store will host a benefit that includes a silent auction of art and other items. There will be live music by Nick Baltic and refreshments by Timpano Chop House.
Emporium artists donated the art, and several foundation members are contributing auction items from local businesses for the free event.
Owners Shelby Boggs and Bob Parsons, who are engaged, said their original plan was to host monthly art mixers, which would benefit a charity every three months. The shop held a benefit for The Spring a few weeks ago.
'If we can do something for somebody more often than that, we will,' Parsons said.

Hyde Park Village To Host Fall Art Festival
Hyde Park Village will host the 18th annual Fall Art Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 29-30.
The free event typically draws applications from more than 1,000 artists nationwide; about 110 applications were accepted this year.
'Artists are picked on the basis of quality, of course, but also on how they display their work,' said Hillary Reynolds, publicist for Howard Alan Events, which is producing the festival. 'So it's presentation and quality.'
Expect to see lots of emerging contemporary artists along with favorites such as Annmarie Siegel, who recycles watch parts into creative jewelry pieces, and Cheryll Grogan, a Gulfport artist who converts old lobster and crab traps found off Florida's coast into frames for her tiles and acrylic paintings.
