Annual Hyde Park Festival Draws A Variety Of Artists

TAMPA - The 18th annual Hyde Park Village Art Festival will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 29-30 in the village, between Swann and Dakota avenues.

The free event will feature paintings, photography, jewelry and other works. Exhibitors include artist Cheryll Grogan, who transforms lobster and crab traps into frames, landscape photographer Dan Albright, and jewelry artisans Maya Konforti, Sylvie Camps and Cecilia Gonzales.

Guild's Mixer Set For Merino's
SEMINOLE HEIGHTS - The Business Guild of Seminole Heights will host its end-of-summer mixer from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Merino's Deli, 6428 N. Florida Ave.

Garden Clubs Kick Off Year

TAMPA - Several garden clubs are busy planning events, including:

Jenifer Ownby will host a welcome back salad dinner for the Parkland Garden Club at 6:30 p.m. Monday at 3203 W. Parkland Blvd.

Club members and potential members from the neighborhood are invited. The group usually meets the fourth Monday of the month for a program and dinner.

Debra Porter, president of Beach Park Garden Club, recently hosted a membership coffee at her home. About 25 members and guests attended the brunch, which included spinach quiche, fruit, cheese, cookies and other goodies.

Hospice Store Seeks Volunteers

SOUTH TAMPA - Life Treasurers, LifePath Hospice's volunteer-run thrift store, will have a volunteer recruitment open house at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the store, 1918 S. Dale Mabry Highway.

Volunteers must be 14 or older; retail sales experience is not required. The store is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

Proceeds from sales benefit LifePath programs.

Wine Tasting Benefits Abilities Foundation

SOUTH TAMPA - Fine Wine & Spirits Warehouse will host a wine tasting at the home of Mike Kwasin, 3613 S. Beach Drive, from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

The event, which will feature more than 60 wines, will benefit the Abilities Foundation. The suggested donation is $25 a person or $40 a couple.

Garcia Receives Gonzmart Award

YBOR CITY - The Ybor City Chamber of Commerce recently presented the Cesar Gonzmart Award to Adrienne Garcia, executive director of the Hillsborough Community College Foundation.

The award, named for the founder of the Columbia Restaurant, was presented at a gala at the restaurant.

Garcia, a Tampa native, was the 2005 Tampa Hispanic Heritage Woman of the Year.
