Meet The New Eagles

PALMA CEIA - Eight Boy Scouts from Troop 53 at Palma Ceia United Methodist Church will receive their Eagle rank at a Court of Honor at 3 p.m. Saturday at the church.

The Scouts and their Eagle Scout projects are:

Richard Benton "R.B." Barrett, the son of Richard and Jana Barrett, is a freshman at the University of Florida. He painted and repaired the Teen Room at the Jim Walter Interbay Boys & Girls Club.

Kevin Corbett Blitch, the son of Corbett and Irene Blitch, is a freshman at the University of South Florida. He rescreened an outdoor classroom at the Lowry Park Zoo Green Swamp Preserve.

Thomas L. Hires III, the son of Tom and Cia Hires, is a freshman at USF. He collected hoes for migrant workers and about 500 pairs of donated shoes for a Bradenton clothing bank.

Joseph David Manson, the son of Douglas and Sarah Manson, is a freshman at Virginia Tech. He collected clothes, toys, toiletries and other items for the Personal Energy Transportation Project, which provides wheelchairs and other items in developing nations.

Peter Tyler Murray, the son of Mitchell and Kathy Murray, is a freshman at Hillsborough Community College. He collected new and used backpacks filled with school supplies and gathered donations to purchase those items for homeless children in conjunction with Metropolitan Ministries.

Jonathan David Newkirk, the son of David and Melanie Newkirk, is a freshman at Vanderbilt University. He engineered and installed outdoor showers at Palma Ceia United Methodist Church.

Spencer Paul Segers, the son of Tom and Lauren Segers, is a freshman at Florida State University. He collected U.S., state of Florida and POW-MIA flags for a Flag Retirement Ceremony at American Legion Post 5 on Memorial Day.

Jeff Washington, the son of Martha Joyner, is a sophomore at USF. He painted a stairwell at the Jim Walter Interbay Boys & Girls Club.
