DOWNTOWN - The 17th annual Gourmet Feastival & Silent Auction will feature food and drink samples from more than 320 restaurants and caterers.
The event, from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, also will include bidding for more than 150 items, including travel and leisure packages, gift baskets and tickets to sporting events.
The event will be in Carol Morsani Hall and Louise Lykes Ferguson Hall. A VIP reception is planned for the Inner Circle on the second floor of Morsani hall
The fundraiser benefits the nonprofit Centre for Women, which serves more than 4,000 women, girls, families and seniors each year.
Tickets are $50 if purchased by 5 p.m. Aug. 27 and $60 afterward. Attendees must be 21 or older. For tickets, go to www.gourmetfeastival.org or call (813) 251-8437.
Pat Colvard Named Honorary Chairwoman
UT CAMPUS - Pat Colvard, a member of The Chiselers since 1995 and the organization's president in 2000, will be the honorary chairwoman of the 2009 Chiselers Market Preview Party.
Al Van Voris is chairman of the event, which is being held in conjunction with the organization's 50th anniversary. The Chiselers' mission is restoration of the 1891 Tampa Bay Hotel, now home to the University of Tampa.
The event will be March 13 on the UT campus, 401 W. Kennedy Blvd.; the annual Chiselers Market will be March 14.
Colvard was chairwoman of the market in 1997 and in 1998 undertook the sale of 15,000 copies of the group's cookbook. She has served on the boards or committees of many other organizations, including MacDonald Training Center, Florida Prostate Cancer Network, Pediatric Cancer Foundation and Kids City.
Local Foundations Present Grants
TAMPA - The DeBartolo Family Foundation recently presented $70,000 in grants through its community funding program, which was established in 2001 to assist local organizations.
The recipients include Big Cat Rescue, the Family Justice Center of Hillsborough County, the Franciscan Friars, the Hillsborough Education Foundation, the Junior League of Tampa, the Life Enrichment Center, Mort Elementary School Early Exceptional Learning Program, Ovacome of Tampa Bay Foundation, Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Tampa Marine Institute and VSA Arts of Florida.
The foundation also presented its Spirit of Humanity Award, which includes a $25,000 donation, to the Freedom Playground Foundation, which is building an Imagining Possibilities playground at Grady Elementary School.
In addition, the Glazer Family Foundation recently presented seven grants totaling $25,000. The recipients included Tampa Bay Academy of Hope.
The Glazer foundation's 2008 Backpack It Back-to-School program kicked off at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp.
Fourteen community groups will distribute 1,500 backpacks to needy children. The organizations include the Corporation to Develop Communities., Tampa Heights Junior Civic Association, Project LINK, the NFL/YET Centers of Tampa Bay and Abe Brown Ministries.
Krewes Planning Parties And Events
YBOR CITY - Local krewes are winding down their summer activities with a variety of events, including:
•The Caribbean Cowboys' sixth annual Bead Blast, a fundraiser for Angels Unaware, will be from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Thursday at the Green Iguana, 1708 E. Seventh Ave. It will include food and drink specials.
•The Krewe of Hillsborough and the Krewe of Pandora plan a Nine-Hole Golf Pub Crawl on Saturday in Ybor City. Registration is from 7 to 8 p.m. at Elmer's, 2003 E. Seventh Ave
The fee is $10.
•The Rough Riders will have a Flugtag Winners Social at 6 p.m. Aug. 21 at SoHo Tavern South, 2221 W. Platt St. It will feature members of the winning Flugtag team and video of the July competition. For information, call (813) 253-5900.
March Of Dimes Honors Bryants
TAMPA - Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker Matt Bryant and his wife, Melissa, have been named Volunteers of the Month by the March of Dimes, Florida chapter.
They served on the Signature Chefs Auction committee and are the 2008 Ambassador Family.
