Annual Luncheon Fills Up Empty Bowls

DOWNTOWN - America's Second Harvest of Tampa Bay held its 14th Annual Empty Bowls Luncheon on Nov. 20 at Lykes Gaslight Park. More than $50,000 was collected to help raise awareness and money for those who are hungry in the Tampa Bay area.
For a $10 donation, guests received a bowl of soup, bread, an apple and water. Mayor Pam Iorio provided the keynote address, and WFLA News Channel 8's Keith Cate was master of ceremonies. Sweetbay Supermarket president and America's Second Harvest board member, Mike Vail, also addressed an audience of approximately 1,000.
