Event Planners Show Moms Rock

SEMINOLE HEIGHTS - Mothers often don't get the recognition they deserve, so Marisa Langford is doing something about it.

The mother of two, along with her business partner, Candice Bernstein, has created a program to honor moms in the Tampa Bay area.

" Moms Rock! Tampa is a way to give back to the community by recognizing people like my friends that have been my support group that meant the world to me through this time as a parent. Women that work full-time with three kids, entrepreneurs and stay-athome moms," said Langford of Seminole Heights. "There are all these amazing moms out there."

Moms Rock! Tampa is a monthly award based on nominations from the Web site, www.momsrocktampa.com in conjunction with www.Baby NewsBits.com. Winners are

judged on their love of life, boundless energy and generosity of spirit.

"Every mom has a story," Langford said. "It's more or less about rewarding moms for doing things day in and day out without question. There is no annual salary in being a mom. The most priceless thing you get is the love of your children in return. It's always nice, though, when someone recognizes you."

Langford and Bernstein, of BluePrint Event Group, got together with the parent resource network, Baby News Bits, to get out word about Moms Rock! Tampa.

In November, BluePrint and Baby News Bits hosted the Baby Bungalow Spa Fundraiser, an event supporting the Baby Bungalow, a service of the Child Abuse Council that offers resources for area families. The event raised $2,500 and is where they did a soft launch of Moms Rock! Tampa with their first winner, Karen Becker of Lutz.

Beginning January and lasting throughout 2009, Moms Rock! will choose a monthly " rock star" mom who will receive a makeover at Level 2 Aveda Salonspa in Hyde Park

and be dressed in a gown from a local boutique for a photo shoot by Jennifer Griffin Photography.

"All moms rock. They do so much," Langford said. "We want to give back to them."
