Firefighters Bring Toys For Children

PALMA CEIA - It was Tampa firefighters to the rescue of the Child Abuse Council's holiday store.

The Tampa Firefighters Union made a delivery of $1,000 worth of gifts - pacifiers, rattles, teething rings and soft toys - for infants.

Larry Parker, president of the Firefighters Union, said union members heard the holiday program was short items for the youngest children and decided to help. They used union funds to pay for the gifts.

"We felt it was time to take some action. It is extremely rewarding to help the younger kids," Parker said.
Child Abuse Council workers accepted the gifts Dec. 15 and promptly sorted and organized them for the store's opening the next day. The store allows families served by the council to shop for free for their children, and volunteers wrap the items.

Paul D'Agostino, the council's executive director, said parents or guardians may say the gifts are from them, relatives, Santa Claus or whatever tradition they observe.
