SOUTH TAMPA - Christmas wishes abounded Dec. 21 when more than 200 homeless men and women gathered at Hyde Park United Methodist Church as recipients of the inaugural Christmas Wish program.
Beginning in November, Hyde Park's Open Arms Ministry began collecting wishes from the men and women who regularly eat breakfast in the church's Activities Center on Sunday mornings. Hyde Park members fulfilled the wishes, providing everything from bicycles to clothing.
Even those who had not made a wish did not leave empty-handed. Due to the preparation of the volunteers, an additional 50 guests received an item from the ministry's clothing closet, a bag of toiletries, socks, a Bible and a hot meal.
