WEST TAMPA - It's New Year's Eve, and there is a dance at the West Tampa Convention Center designed to take partygoers back in time.
The event, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., will feature the groups Bullwinkle and Coo Coo Ca Choo, which includes singer Rodney Justo, who performed with the Atlanta Rhythm Section and Tampa groups Noah's Ark and The Mystics.
Randy Rumore, a past president of the Rough Riders krewe, is organizing the event, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Rough Riders Fallen Comrade Monument Committee.

Learning Institute Offers Overview Of Classes
WEST TAMPA - The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of South Florida will have its South Tampa Winter Open House at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 9 at the Tampa Museum of Art, 2306 N. Howard Ave.
The open house will feature many of the instructors who will deliver brief overviews of the classes they will teach this winter term, beginning Jan. 20.
The Osher Institute at USF will offer more than 70 Lifelong Learning classes covering many academic fields including history, life writing, geopolitics, art history, comparative religions, physical education, humanities, introductory and intermediate computer classes, great books of literature, concertos, Spanish classical music, science classes and much more.

Night At Circus Set For Jan. 8
CHANNEL DISTRIT - The 18th annual Night at the Circus will benefit Tampa General Hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
The event will be Jan. 8 at the St. Pete Times Forum and includes a patrons' party at 5:30 p.m. and the circus performance at 7:30 p.m. Andrea Gramling is the chairwoman.
Sponsorships begin at $500; those at the $2,500 level and above include invitations to the patrons' party. The party is geared for families and includes food and drinks, a visit by the ringmaster and circus clowns, entertainment, activities such as face-painting, a commemorative photograph and goodie bags for children.

SOUTH TAMPA - Sunset Park Garden Club will have a program on hassle-free houseplants at 10 a.m. Jan. 7 at the Sunset Park Garden Club, 4624 W. Browning Ave.

Group Takes Time For Tea
BAYSHORE - Inspirational speaker Linda Harrah will present a program on tea at the Jan. 8 "Time For Tea" Luncheon.
The event is at 11 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall of South Tampa Fellowship Church, 5101 Bayshore Blvd. The cost is $15 per person.
Harrah will offer tips about teas and the art of giving tea parties and show teapots and teacups.

Pancreatic Cancer Topic At Meeting
SOUTH TAMPA - Malaska Mokenge will speak about pancreatic cancer at the Jan. 9 meeting of the Sword of Hope of the American Cancer Society.
The 10:30 a.m. event will be at the home of Sandra and Bill Diaz. Lunch will be $15, and the hostesses are Glenda Sinardi, Margaret Cox, Sybil Catala and Dianne Jones. Lunch is $15; directions and reservations are available by calling (813) 254-3630.
Group Celebrating Historical Birthdays
NORTH TAMPA - The birthdays of Robert E. Lee and "Stonewall" Jackson will be celebrated when the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Tampa Chapter 113, meets Jan. 10.
The meeting will be at 10:45 a.m. at Perkins Restaurant, 12650 N. Dale Mabry Highway. It is open to members and potential members.
At the December meeting, the group collected $152, and seven lap robes were donated to the Elves for the Elderly program.
