SEMINOLE HEIGHTS - About 50 residents met recently with the city's growth management staff to kick off a pilot project to rethink the neighborhood's urban landscape.
The project is expected to last about two years and result in a set of guidelines, known as form-based zoning, designed to encourage a more mixed-use, pedestrian friendly community. The neighborhoods covered include South, Southeast and Old Seminole Heights.
"You'll be working hands-on redesigning the area," zoning administrator Cathy Coyle said.
Coyle and staff members from city departments met with residents Feb. 5 at the Seminole Garden Center.
Volunteers are assisting city staff this week in taking an inventory of the neighborhood's infrastructure, including street widths and sidewalk locations. They are fanning out to major intersections to get measurements and take photographs.
Workshops to get public input are scheduled for 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday and March 4, 19 and 31 at the garden center, 5800 N. Central Ave.
