TAMPA - Employment lawyer Katie Kyres of Beach Park says she "would rather bake brownies for bullies than mind-wrestle them."
So she decided it was time to leave the courtroom when daughter Casey was born 2 1/2 years ago.
Kyres launched Silly Dilly Tot Spot, a Web-based store specializing in children's gifts and clothing. On March 2, she opens a bricks-and-mortar version at 4035 W. Kennedy Blvd.
"I can bring my daughter to the store," she said. "I couldn't bring my daughter to the courtroom."
The 1,500-square-foot store will sell "heirloom and artisan quality, kid-inspired products made in places from Tampa to the Netherlands," Kyres said.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Call (813) 282-8855 or go to www.sillydilly totspot.com for information.
Little Gym Coming To South Tampa
Sisters Susie DeCambra and Marie Boutain are a month from opening The Little Gym of South Tampa, but they say their telephone is ringing with enrollment calls.
"From what we hear, we are the buzz of South Tampa," DeCambra said.
The Little Gym franchise began in 1976. It offers a noncompetitive program of gymnastics, sports, dance and games to develop motor skills and build self-confidence in children 4 months to 12 years. The nationwide franchise includes locations at 15453 N. Dale Mabry Highway and in Palm Harbor.
The sisters signed their franchise agreement in October 2006. They found a location but couldn't secure a lease for enough years to meet franchise requirements. So they kept looking until finding the 5,100-square-foot site at 4251 Henderson Blvd.
The business is scheduled to open March 31.
"It's a very long process," DeCambra said.
