WEST TAMPA - Al Lopez Park is getting new equipment to replace old, tattered items at one of its two playgrounds.
The metal and plastic equipment will include swings, slides, climbing nets and walls, play areas for smaller children and covered picnic tables.
The city council last week approved spending more than $221,000 for the equipment. The city will spend an additional $59,000 for a canopy and wood and rubber surfaces.
The parks department had help choosing the equipment. Sixty to 80 children attended sessions at the park to pick their favorite equipment and colors, department spokeswoman Linda Carlo said.
The equipment should be installed in about two months at the 132-acre park, 4810 N. Himes Ave., she said.
