TAMPA - Orthopedic surgeon Daniel Murphy said he has owned the medical building at 602 S. Howard Ave. for about 10 years.
"As the area became more popular and busier, I saw the need for having more efficient use of the building," he said.
Now Murphy has opened South Tampa After Hours Immediate Care, which can treat non-life-threatening illnesses or injuries from sore throats to broken bones without a trip to the emergency room.
The clinic is open from 5 to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Patients will be seen by one of the five family physicians on staff, said Murphy, who is not seeing patients. The staff also will include paramedics and fire rescue personnel.
"It's care that's convenient, and it will be professional-quality care delivered by a physician," he said.
Physical exams required for school or other reasons are offered, along with seasonal flu shots.
No appointment is required. Patients must be at least 2 years old. Fees depend on the service.
"We are going to try to be competitive," Murphy said.
He said the clinic will file insurance claims electronically.

H2O's Business Is About Drying Up
News reports are showing widespread flooding in the Midwest.
But most home floods are caused by broken utilities such as water heaters, washing machines, dishwashers and toilets, said Ed Summers, who started H2O Drying Solutions in the fall.
Summers said he uses a thermal energy system as well as dehumidifiers and blowers.
"I am able to dry quicker and with a lot less damage," he said. "It's all about the mold: You've got to get it dry."

Goin' Postal Opens New Store
Goin' Postal, the Zephyrhills-based retail shipping franchise, has opened at 5811 S. Dale Mabry Highway, south of Gandy Boulevard.
Jim and Joanne Lemuell own the new store.
"Our prices are based on weight, size and where the package is going," Jim Lemuell said. "I get good discounts from FedEx and DHL and pass that on to the customer."
Goin' Postal South Tampa also offers U.S. Postal Service stamps at face value and other material and services such as faxing, copying, mailbox rentals, ink cartridges and packing supplies.
During July, the store will replace any worn U.S. flag of 2 feet by 5 feet or larger for free. The old flags will be given to the Veterans of Foreign Wars for proper disposal, Lemuell said.
Store hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. For information, call (813) 831-7217.
