Skipper's Co-Owner To Be Honored
NORTH TAMPA - Skipper's Smokehouse will host a party Sunday for co-owner Vince McGilvra, who is retiring after almost 28 years.
The free event will be at 5 p.m. at Skipper's, 910 Skipper Road, and will feature the Johnny G. Lyon Band. Organizers said there also will be surprises and Skipper's-style silliness.
McGilvra and two of his friends from the U.S. Air Force - Tom White and Andy Bastman - bought the North Tampa restaurant and bar in 1980. McGilvra plans to retain his share in the Skipper's but won't be involved in the daily business.
