PALMA CEIA - Plant High School sophomore Trenton Wilder recently became the 53rd member of Troop 53 to receive the rank of Eagle, the highest in Boy Scouting.
He completed 41 merit badges, and for his service project, he built 26 bat houses and erected them at the Lowry Park Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve in Pasco County.
Since joining the Scouts in second grade, Wilder estimates, he has camped more than 80 nights, performed more than 125 service hours and hiked more than 90 miles.
Wilder, 15, was honored at an April 22 banquet at Palma Ceia United Methodist Church, the troop's charter organization.
