Dynamic Duo Takes On First Triathlon

ST. PETERSBURG - Childhood friends Kris Wiebeck, of Palma Ceia, and Chris Whitney, of Beach Park, joined about 4,000 other competitors for the St. Anthony's Triathlon on April 27.

It was their first Olympic-distance triathlon.

The event includes a 1.5-kilometer (0.9-mile) swim, a 40 k (24.8-mile) bike ride and a 10 k (6.2-mile) run.

Wiebeck was a semifinalist in the 2004 Olympic Trials and an All-American swimmer at the University of Florida.

Whitney played baseball at the University of Tampa and coaches baseball at Jesuit High School.
