Friends Celebrate 'World Tiara Day'
SEMINOLE HEIGHTS - Adorned with tiaras and antique rhinestone necklaces, a dozen friends gathered recently on the veranda of the Front Porch Grille in Seminole Heights to celebrate "World Tiara Day."

The event, which was first celebrated by some of the same attendees in 2007 in the same location, was created by Tampa artist Cathy Thompson and her friend Kimmie SweetGrass of Victoria, British Columbia. Thompson was in Mexico this year, so her sister, Robbie Brauner, coordinated the May 1 event.

"It's a whimsical made-up holiday to celebrate all that women are," Brauner said as the guests toasted their patron saint, Audrey Hepburn.

Bartender Travis Schofer got in the spirit by wearing a tiara as he served drinks.

"This is absolutely wonderful," he said. "I just wish I could join the party."
