West Tampa American Legion Sets Hall Dedication, Fundraiser

WEST TAMPA - The West Tampa Memorial American Legion Post 248 will host a hall dedication and fundraiser at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The hall was built in 1948 but closed in 2004 because of the aging membership, low participation and maintenance issues.

Last year, Eddie Diaz, the post's finance officer, reopened the hall and began boosting membership. He also moved his small business to the location, 2105 N. Jamaica St., so someone would be available during the day to talk with people interested in learning about the organization or renting the hall.

After the dedication, the organization will host an American Legion youth baseball tournament across the street at the West Tampa Little League. Games are scheduled for noon and 3 and 6 p.m.

There will be bingo during the day at the hall and a spaghetti dinner from noon to 5 p.m. will be a fundraiser for the post. Tickets for the dinner are $6 in advance and $7 at the door.
