TAMPA HEIGHTS - The last time the auditorium at D.W. Waters Career Center was used for a graduation was in 1967, when the school was named Jefferson High.
The renovated auditorium was brought back to life Wednesday night as the school celebrated its graduation and the auditorium was dedicated for Kay Moore Morse, who graduated from Jefferson in 1943 and pushed to save the 1910 building.
The Hillsborough County School District spent $9 million in 2002 to restore the building and convert it to the career center, but the auditorium wasn't part of the initial project.
The district since has spent $950,000 in the first phase of restoring the auditorium.
