TAMPA - Members of the Hillsborough County Medical Association Alliance are participating in Smoke Out!, a campaign to make movie companies aware of parental concerns about smoking imagery in films rated G, PG and PG-13. The goal is to get R ratings for movies featuring smoking.
Alliance President Nimisha Chheda has led the effort in gathering more than 1,000 petition signatures, including from the Students Working Against Tobacco teams of Hillsborough and Pinellas counties, the Florida Association of Physicians of Indian Origin and the Gulfcoast Area Chapter of the American Lung Association of Florida.
For information on the campaign or to sign the online petition, go to www.screenout.org.
The alliance was founded in 1947 to support public health education and address health-care needs and issues. For information on the alliance, go to www.hcma.net.
