Red Cross Angels Prepare For Annual Silver Coffee

PARKLAND ESTATES - The Red Cross Angels will have its annual Silver Coffee from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the home of Missy and Corey Steadman, 3401 Mullen Ave.

The fundraiser, featuring finger foods and coffee, allows guests to learn about the auxiliary organization of the Tampa Bay chapter of the American Red Cross.

The event's committee members are Beverly Anderson, Glenda Barlow, Aida Calafell, Bebe Campbell, Sabra Carl, Louise Diaz, Alice Dingle, Anne Garrison, Sally Hill, Clarajo Hurley, J.J. Jones, Joan Miller, Mary Jane Martinez, Elaine Newman, Betty Poe, Beverly Rogers, Susan Sykes, Nancy Watkins and Betty Wood.

Cross And Shield Benefits High School
WEST TAMPA - More than 200 parents, alumni and supporters of Tampa Catholic High School attended its second Cross and Shield Celebration on Nov. 1 at Higgins Hall at St. Lawrence Catholic Church.

The event raised more than $200,000 for tuition assistance, technology and other school improvements.

Donna Taylor was executive chairwoman of the event, which included dinner, dancing and a silent and live auction. Monsignor Laurence Higgins and Fran Curci were the corporate sponsor chairmen; Curci also served as master of ceremonies.

Other organizing members included: Shari Martinez, patron sponsorships; Barbara Portales, auction; Jackie Nelson, auction closeout; and Rosie Ramos, decorations. Margaret Ostenko was program editor, Kim Gonzalez oversaw gifts, Kelly Whitehead handled reservations and Pam Sarich provided the video presentation.

"There's some rough days ahead, but we are going to educate our children," Principal Thomas Reidy said.

Fishing Tournament Reels In Donations

CHANNEL DISTRICT - Fishing enthusiasts from ages 11 to 91 took top honors in the seventh annual Gary Nix Memorial Fishing Tournament benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay.

The Nothing To Lose team with Capt. Manny Novo won the Grand Slam, G. Price Giles won for longest trout, Walter Woolf won for longest redfish and 91-year-old Alfred Haubenstein won for longest snook.

The Junior Grand Slam winner was Dani Tringali, 11.

The event, established in memory of a former club member who died at age 16, also included a Captain's Party at Towers at Channelside attended by 300 guests.

A record $54,000 was raised for scholarships, programs and a new gymnasium. Paddy Moses, Nix's grandmother, was event chairwoman.

Cigar Festival Means Heritage

YBOR CITY - The Cigar Heritage Festival will feature food, vendors, cigar-rolling demonstrations and a live national broadcast by Cigar Dave.

The free event will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Centennial Park in Ybor City and will benefit the Ybor City Museum Society.

Actor Joe Gannascoli of "The Sopranos" will be a special guest.

Cigars And Drinks On The Veranda

DOWNTOWN - The Henry B. Plant Museum on the University of Tampa campus, 401 W. Kennedy Blvd., presents "Cigars and Libations on the Veranda" from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Woman's Club Presents Tea

BAYSHORE - The Tampa Woman's Club will have its inaugural Pink Ribbon Tea from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at its clubhouse, 2901 Bayshore Blvd.

The event will include sandwiches and desserts prepared by members, who also are creating table decorations. Music and speakers will be featured and cancer survivors honored.

Holiday Gift Items Featured At Market

BAYSHORE - The Tampa Federation of Garden Clubs and Circles, better known as the Tampa Garden Club, will host its annual Open House and Holiday Market from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the club, 2629 Bayshore Blvd.

The event will feature exhibits of holiday decorations, specialty foods, custom wreaths, gift items, yard art and lawn furniture. Vendors will sell container gardens, plants, planters, herbs, jewelry, accessories and more.

The club also will present a free program with Brenda Hanson at 10 a.m. today. A salad bar lunch will follow for $5. For reservations, call the club at (813) 251-5059.

Executive Women Sponsor Reading Rally

EAST TAMPA Executive Women International - Tampa Bay Chapter recently sponsored its annual Reading Rally at Edison Elementary School, 1607 E. Curtis St.

Each second-grader received the book "Red Riding Hood," written and illustrated by James Marshall. Additional books were donated to the school library for use in the Fairy Tale Bowl competition and a donation was made to the library fund.

Beverly Hicks, the organization's president, worked on the rally with Principal Julie Scardino and media specialist Ashley Barlar.

St. John's Methodist Has Annual Bazaar

WELLSWOOD - St. John's United Methodist Church, 5120 N. Mendenhall Drive, will have its annual fall bazaar from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

There will be crafts, woodwork, baked items, a white elephant sale and household goods. Admission is free. For information, call (813) 876-2381.

Winemaking Is Topic For Parkland Club

SOUTH TAMPA - Winemaker Chase Marden will present a program on "Florida Winemaking" at Monday's meeting of the Parkland Garden Club.

Caregiver Tips Topic At Meeting

DOWNTOWN - Peggie Sherry will present "Secrets of an Effective Caregiver" at Friday's meeting of the DeSoto Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The event begins with refreshments at 12:15 p.m., with the meeting at 1 p.m. in the Little School House on the University of Tampa campus, 401 W. Kennedy Blvd. Kathryne Schmeizer is the host.
