SEMINOLE HEIGHTS - Early Signing Day was four years in the making for Hillsborough High senior baseball players Marlon Mitchell and Jay Laurienzo.
"I woke up this morning and felt blessed," said Mitchell, who signed Nov. 12 with North Carolina State.
"It's a new chapter in your life," said Laurienzo, who signed with Florida Gulf Coast University.
Laurienzo, an outfielder, was the Terriers' top hitter as a junior, batting .441 with seven doubles, three triples, four home runs, 23 RBI and 24 runs scored. He was a Tribune All-Hillsborough County second team selection and a Class 5A all-state honorable mention selection last season.
Mitchell, a catcher, spent the summer vying for a spot on the 18-under U.S. national team. He was one of 36 players invited to Phoenix in July for the weeklong national team trials.
