DOWNTOWN - The installation and dedication of a mural, one of two eco-friendly art projects facilitated by Miami-based artist Xavier Cortada, took place Nov. 10 at Tampa Preparatory School. "Setting Roots, Building Community" features a colorful interpretation of the mangrove, incorporating self-portraits and inspirational messages by students.
The student-run human rights organization STAND and Tampa Prep's Environmental Club were instrumental in collecting and planting mangrove seedlings to be transplanted in Tampa Bay. They also helped create the mural, which is at the entrance to the school's Peifer Library, with Middle School and Upper School students.
