Autumn's Winds Blow In Numerous Fundraisers

TAMPA - The fall social season is in full swing with fundraising events benefiting various causes, including:

•The Fur Ball at 6 p.m. Friday at the A La Carte Event Pavilion, 4050 Dana Shores Drive, benefits Big Cat Rescue.

There will be food, entertainment and a live and a silent auction; dress is "safari and wild."

•The Hearts of Fire Gala at 6 p.m. Saturday, also at the Al La Carte Event Pavilion, includes a cocktail hour, dinner, live and silent auctions, and dancing to the Black Water Blues.

Suzanne Avery and Liz Young are co-chairwomen; Marilyn McPhail is vice chairwoman.

Tickets are $250, and proceeds benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association; call (727) 712-8200.

•The Key to the Cure Kickoff Celebration is at 6 p.m. Oct. 15 at Saks Fifth Avenue at WestShore Plaza, at West Shore and Kennedy boulevards.

The event includes food, drinks, entertainment and shopping. Through Oct. 19, the store will donate 2 percent of its sales to the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute.

•The Learning for Life Oktoberfest Gala at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Italian Club, 1731 E. Seventh Ave., benefits the Boy Scout of America's Learning for Life Program.

The event includes a German dinner, beer, wine tasting, live and silent auction, and music by The Mainstream Band.

•The Night of the Iguana at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 18 at the TPepin Hospitality Centre, 4121 N. 50th St., includes food samples, an open bar, entertainment, and a live and silent auction.

The event benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and Northern Florida. Tickets are $85 through Oct. 17 and $100 at the door; call (813) 288-2600.

Sword Of Hope Guild Sets Friday Meeting

SOUTH Susan Guidi of Advanced Ultrasound Co. will discuss ovarian cancer and its detection through ultrasound at Friday's meeting of the Sword of Hope Guild of The American Cancer Society.

The 10:30 a.m. meeting, open to members and guests, will be at the home of Jay and Lois Older. Hosts for the luncheon to follow are Sara Baynes, Shirley Perez, Florence Russ and Yolanda Wakins.

Tampa Prep Alumni Help Raise Money

DOWNTOWN - Tampa Preparatory alumni Scott Morris, Class of 1981, and Paul Whiting, Class of 1986, are co-chairmen of the Tampa Prep Golf Outing, which tees off Friday at Westchase Golf Club.

Suzie Eldridge, Class of 1999, is the volunteer coordinator for the tournament, which benefits the Alumni Scholarship Fund.

Other planning committee members are Matt Danahy, Class of 1979, Bud Meadows, Class of 1985, Mark Rosenthal, Jorge Navas, Jim Soble, Bruce Tigert, Kim George, Jonathan Levy and Glenn Cherry.

Krewe Of Alegria Kickin' For Kids

NORTH Krewe of Alegria members and guests gathered Sept. 26 at the LA Hangout for the fifth annual Bike Night.

The event featured a bike show, a silent auction, music, barbecue and beer. Proceeds benefited the krewe's Kickin' for Kids fund, which provides shoes for needy children in the Tampa Bay area.

Many Alegria members are from South Tampa, including founder Dyann "Rocky" Valdez.

Women's Club, Ministry Host Lunch, Program

SOUTH The South Tampa Christian Women's Club and Stonecraft Ministries will have a luncheon and program at 11 a.m. Thursday in the fellowship hall of South Tampa Fellowship Church, 5101 Bayshore Blvd.

The event, open to members and guests, will include Anne Ashton Garrison speaking about Modern Manners and Dining Etiquette, a performance by vocalist David Valentine and Bobbie Angstrom's presentation on "Unsure Footing in Sure Places."

Nursing In Vietnam Topic For Meeting

DOWNTOWN - Jo Ann Hamby will present "Being a Navy Nurse in Vietnam" at Friday's meeting of the DeSoto Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution.
