TAMPA - Beach Park School students have been heading south for lessons outside the classroom.
In Sarasota, they attended the Rescue, Rehab and Release class at Mote Marine Laboratory and saw sea turtle hatchlings, dolphins and manatees undergoing rehabilitation.
They visited the historical Gamble Plantation Mansion in Ellenton, where they saw how the early sugar plantations were developed and got a look at pioneer life.
After hearing about the crop failures of the early Central Florida sugar plantations, the students learned how to raise bumper crops of tomatoes with container gardening at the Earth Box Research Center, also in Ellenton.
