Free Art Event Takes A Walk Through Historic District

YBOR CITY - The newly formed Ybor Art Association will kick off September with ARTWalk from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday in the historic district.

The free monthly event provides an opportunity to visit more than 15 galleries, art studios, performance centers and museums, stopping along the way to sample the neighborhood's eateries and shops.

There are exhibits about to end their run, such as "Faces of Athena" at Romeo Gallery, 1515 E. Seventh Ave., and others just getting started.

In the latter category, the Rivoli Gallery in the Ritz Theater, 1505 E. Seventh Ave., will host exhibits of photographs by Ryan Prado and contemporary metal sculptures by Dominique Labauvie.

The art association was founded by local gallery owners Brad Cooper and Walter Romeo to encourage the public to rediscover the rich art culture flourishing in Ybor. Call Romeo at (813) 495-4649 for information about the association or the event.

Exhibit Highlights Fine Arts Faculty
The University of Tampa's fine arts faculty will start the fall semester by showing students how it's done.

Faculty members will showcase their diverse and accomplished artistic skills in a free exhibit of more than 30 original works, running Friday through Oct. 18 in the Scarfone/Hartley Gallery on the UT campus.

The exhibit includes photography, paintings, sculpture, digital images, drawings, mixed media and installations.

The free reception is from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the gallery in the R.K. Bailey Art Studios, 310 N. Boulevard. Call the gallery at (813) 253-6217 for information.

Artists Collective Celebrates Birthday

Pyramid Photography will celebrate one year of commercial and artistic success from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Tampa Artist Emporium, 1618 Snow Ave., in Hyde Park Village.

Pyramid was founded by artists Mitzi Gordon and Bradley Valentine.

The event will include champagne, a drawing and an exhibit of recent works.

Nuance Spotlights Spanish Artistry

Nuance Galleries, 804 S. Dale Mabry Highway, will showcase the works of Spanish artist Alvar Sunol through September. Known simply as Alvar, the artist works in various media but is best known for his hand-embossed stone lithographs.

In addition to lithographs, one watercolor and three bronzes by Alvar will be featured.

High School Gallery Focuses On Florida

Gallery 501 at Blake High School will showcase the photography of Harry Howard and Amy Pezzicara beginning Friday.

Howard, the architect who designed Blake, and Pezzicara, a professional photographer, will focus on what excites and inspires them about Tampa and Florida.

Meet the artists and see their works at the free opening reception from 5 to 7 p.n. Friday at the gallery, 1701 N. Boulevard. After the opening, the exhibit can be viewed through September by appointment. Call gallery director Lori Ballard at (813) 598-3785 for information.
