TAMPA - The Child Abuse Council's sixth annual Champions for Children Breakfast will emphasize the agency's 30th anniversary and honor a recently retired sheriff's major.
The free event will be at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 23 in the club level of Raymond James Stadium.
Paul D'Agostino, the council's executive director, will make a presentation, "30 Years of Preventing Tears," about the agency's founding.
The program also will honor Maj. Craig Latimer, who retired in July after 30 years with the sheriff's office. He commanded the 163-member team of child protective investigators and supervisors.
Maria and Jerry Ulm are co-chairmen of the breakfast. Maria Ulm has been a member of the council's board of directors since 2004.

Neiman Marcus Hosts Representatives
WEST SHORE - About 40 women - and two dogs - representing social service organizations and charities gathered Thursday for the second Community Calendar of Events Planning Breakfast.
Sponsored by Neiman Marcus at its International Plaza store, the event was organized by Linda Zipkin, the store's public relations manager, and Lydia Mattison, the store's vice president and general manager. It featured a five-course breakfast provided by the Grand Hyatt of Tampa Bay.
The event included representatives from the American Diabetes Association, Sister to Sister, the American Cancer Society, the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay, The Florida Aquarium, The Children's Home, the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, Friends of the Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library and Southeastern Guide Dogs.
Tracy Clouser of the Glazer Children's Museum gave a presentation about the downtown museum, which is set to open in 2010 and will focus on early childhood education.
Parkland Garden Club Holds Membership Event
SOUTH The Parkland Garden Club will start a new club year with a Membership Salad Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the home of Marsha Martin, 2805 W. Parkland Blvd.

Sword Of Hope Guild Sets Membership Coffee
The annual membership coffee of The American Cancer Society's Sword of Hope Guild will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at the home of Lydia Oliva.

Plant Museum Store Holding Annual Sale
UT CAMPUS - The Henry B. Plant Museum store will have its annual Christmas & More Sale from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
All merchandise, including Christmas ornaments, wreaths, greenery, home accessories, purses and scarves will be for sale.
The museum is on the University of Tampa campus, 401 W. Kennedy Blvd.
Dinner Benefits Cancer Foundation
WEST The NoHo Bistro will have a dinner from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday to benefit the Pediatric Cancer Foundation.
Fifty percent of food sales will be donated to the foundation.

Freedom Walk Set For Saturday
BAYSHORE - An America Supports You Freedom Walk in memory of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks will be held Saturday.
The 2-mile walk, sponsored by Operation Homefront, will begin and end at Fred Ball Park on Bayshore Boulevard. The event is free and free T-shirts will be distributed.

Tampa Theatre Hosts Wine Event
DOWNTOWN - Tampa Theatre, 711 N. Franklin St., will host its seventh annual wine and food event Sept. 20.
The theme is "Vino Las Vegas" and the event will include Elvis and Ann-Margret costume contests.
There will be a wine seminar with a food and wine pairing from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The seminar, which will include tastings, is limited to 50 participants. Tickets are $150.
Combination tickets for the Premium Tasting from 7 to 8 p.m. and the Grand Tasting from 8 to 10 p.m. are $85 in advance and $95 at the door.
Tickets for the Grand Tasting only are $50 in advance and $60 at the door.

Candidates Featured At Tiger Bay Club
DOWNTOWN - Candidates for the offices of tax collector, supervisor of elections and property appraiser will address members and guests of the Tiger Bay Club of Tampa on Sept. 19.
The luncheon meeting will be at Maestro's at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, 1010 N. MacInnes Place. Registration is at 11:30 a.m., and the lunch is at noon.

SOUTH Craft vendors are needed for the 18th annual Fall Arts and Crafts Festival sponsored by Manhattan Avenue United Methodist Church.

USF Women Host Scholarship Event
USF CAMPUS - The University of South Florida Women's Club will host its annual lunch recognizing the recipients of the Grace Allen Scholarships.
The event, open to members and guests, will be Monday in Traditions Hall of the Sam & Martha Gibbons Alumni Center. Registration begins at 11 a.m. and the luncheon at noon.
The event also features speaker Linda Whiteford, USF's associate vice president for academic affairs and strategic initiatives.
