SOUTH TAMPA - Seventh-graders at St. Mary's Episcopal Day School learned about the people, cultures and geography of Africa during a Sept. 15 presentation by Navita Cummings James, associate professor of communication at the University of South Florida and chairwoman of the Episcopal Diocese of Southwest Florida's Anti-Racism Committee.
The presentation was part of the students' World Cultures class, in which they complete individual studies of various Africa nations. James, former director of African studies at USF, discussed her three trips to Africa, including visits to Gabon, Senegal, Morocco, Ghana and Tanzania.
