SEMINOLE HEIGHTS - City Council last week approved the sale of beer and wine at a convenience store at Kirby Street and Florida Avenue, across from the Oaks at Riverview complex.
The approval came with a ban on sales of single beers and also wine in less than 12-ounce packages. Area residents lobbied for the ban and worked with owner Salvador Quezada, who agreed to the restrictions.
It took four council meetings to get the wording ironed out for the wet-zoning.
But resident Ingrid Smith said, "It's one of the small details to help out the neighborhood."
She and other residents hope this will promote a standard that can be followed for other wet-zonings including a postponed decision on beer and wine package sales for a proposed CVS drugstore at Sligh and Nebraska avenues.
"Let's develop some kind of consistency," Smith said.
