DOWNTOWN - Cafe Volo & Market wants to be a one-stop shop.

The restaurant that opened Jan. 19 isn't just a place to get a sandwich, coffee, espresso, European-style meal or Italian pastry.

It also sells specialty cheeses, European cold cuts, dried cured salami, olives and roasted peppers and yellow squash. It sells family dinners available to take home. It bakes fresh breads and has a market area where it sells imported pastas, crushed tomatoes, olive oil, canned tuna and cooking sherry.

"It is hard to find authentic European-style products," owner Frank Bordieri said. "We wanted to bring it to Tampa because we felt there was a need."

If that isn't enough, the restaurant also caters food in a variety of styles, including Italian, North American and Latin.

"We are trying to make it as convenient as possible and maybe make their lives a little easier," said Joe Zanni, an owner of the business.

Zanni, of Brandon, partnered with his friend, Bordieri. Both men have years of experience in the restaurant and food business.

Bordieri, 37, who has lived in Toronto and Sicily, moved to Valrico 41/2 years ago to run the family restaurant, the Italian Kitchen in Riverview.

He said it was time for a new challenge.

Cafe Volo was the home of the Lucky Dill, a downtown deli that closed in September. The restaurant is in the Park Towers building, 400 N. Tampa St., Suite 100, at the corner of Ashley Drive and Madison Street.

The restaurant seats up to 140 people. It is open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. The owners hope to receive a liquor license and use it to host happy-hour and wine parties.

The owners said they are confident their business will thrive despite a weak economy.

"I feel Tampa is very strong economically as opposed to some of the smaller cities and suburbs surrounding Tampa," Bordieri said.
