TAMPA - The Academy of the Holy Names hosted the Anti-Defamation League on Feb. 18 for a workshop, "Becoming an Ally: Interrupting Name-Calling and Bullying." The workshop was for 60 middle school students at two sessions. With studies indicating more than 16 percent of U.S. students have been bullied by other students during the current school term, the federal Safe and Drug-Free Schools Program is recommending schools address these concerns. Anti-Defamation League workshops are interactive, participatory and provide opportunities for students to develop and practice skills enabling them to respond to incidents of name-calling and bullying among their peers. The goal is to create inclusive school environments where students feel respected and challenged to succeed.
