Nonprofit Groups To Be Honored With A Luncheon

DANA SHORES - Nonprofit organizations will be honored, with one named nonprofit organization of the year, at the fourth annual WEDU Be More awards event.

The luncheon and awards ceremony will be at 11 a.m., Jan. 15, at the A La Carte Event pavilion, 4050 Dana Shores. Highlights from the ceremony will be featured in a WEDU, Channel 3 special next month.

As part of the event, the Bank of Tampa Hall of Heroes begins at 11 am. It will showcase more than 36 organizations, with displays and information about their services. The luncheon, with Jack Harris as the master of ceremonies, is at noon.

This year's event will include the first Mason Dixon Be More Involved award for volunteerism, to be given to Dixon, program director for WRBQ-FM. Dixon assisted with the launch of the WEDU Be More Awards in 2005 and served as the event's master of ceremonies for three years.

Tickets are $50 per person, $600 for community heroes table for 10, and $1,000 for a philanthropist table of 10.

Rough Riders Host Social, Karaoke Contest
CHANNEL DISTRICT - The Rough Riders will host an all-krewe Pre-Gasparilla Social on Jan. 16 at Stump's Supper Club in Channelside.

The event includes a social time from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. when krewe members can exchange parade beads and pins. Music for dancing will be provided.

At 10 p.m., there will be a Rock Star Karaoke Contest. For information about participating in the contest, send an e-mail to contest chairman Bill Hogan at hoganw@gte.net.

Garden Club To Hear Water Tips
BEACH PARK - A horticulturalist from the Hillsborough County Extension Service will speak about a water-wise program at the Jan. 14 meeting of the Beach Park Garden Club.

The 10 a.m. meeting, open to members and guests, will be at Beach Park Women's Clubhouse, 801 S. West Shore Blvd.

Artist Speaks At Rose Circle

SOUTH TAMPA - Conservationist and water color artist Taylor Ikin will address Rose Circle garden club members at their meeting at 10 a.m. today.
