FAIR OAKS - Britton Plaza is a bit more complete with the addition of a Publix Super Market.
The 64,700-square-foot store opened Thursday, filling space vacated by Albertsons this past summer when Publix announced the acquisition of 49 Albertsons stores.
The store, at 3838 Britton Plaza, will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. It will have a pharmacy and liquor store.
Publix was an original tenant when the plaza opened on South Dale Mabry Highway in 1956, but left the shopping center in 1987. Its return helps fill out the 522,689-square-foot plaza, which still has an empty anchor where Zota Theatres operated before closing in August.
Leasing agent Lenore Reynolds said companies have expressed interest in operating the theater, but no contract is signed.
"We're still contemplating redeveloping the space for a new tenant," Reynolds said. "We'll wait and see what happens with the Publix there."
