Bowling Event Benefits Cancer Research

CHANNEL DISTRICT - An evening of bowling, food, drinks and awards will benefit the prostate cancer research program at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute.

The event, the second Bowling Ball, will be Feb. 18 at Splitsville in Channelside. The doors will open at 5 p.m. and bowling begins at 6:15 p.m.
Corporate participants can field a team of six bowlers; supporters may attend as "pin heads" to cheer for the teams.

Last year's inaugural event had 250 bowlers and fans and raised $15,000 for research for the disease. Moffitt recently established the Advanced Prostate Cancer Collaboration along with experts from across the country.

Team sponsorships begin at $1,000; Pin head admission is $75.

Grace O'Malley Has Annual Gala

BAYSHORE - Ye Loyal Krewe of Grace O'Malley will have its annual gala, and kick off the Gasparilla season on Saturday.

The theme is Grand Venetian Mask and the event will include dinner, drinks and dancing. Guests are asked to wear masks and hide their identities.

Messianic Music Is Featured

BAYSHORE - Joel Chernoff, a Messianic musician who was lead singer for Lamb, will be featured in a concert Feb. 6 at Shoresh David Messianic Synagogue.

Chernoff, who also is the General Secretary of the Messianic Jewish Alliance of America, will perform at 7:30 p.m. at 4320 Bay To Bay Blvd.

Karen Ghent Talks About Public Gardens

SUNSET PARK - Sunset Park Garden Club member Karen Ghent will speak about "My Favorite Public Gardens of America" when the club meets Feb. 4.

Dish Garden Creation To Be Demonstrated

EAST TAMPA - A demonstration on "How To Construct a Dish Garden" will be presented when the Tampa African Violet Society meets Feb. 5.
