TAMPA - Eleven high school juniors from Hillsborough County were selected as Young Women of Promise by The Athena Society, an organization of Tampa Bay professional women committed to promoting equality and opportunity for women.

The winners, recognized at a luncheon May 7 at the Centre Club, received scholarships to help advance their education. Winners included Mariana Stavig of Blake High, Jennifer Le of Hillsborough High, Mallory Hogan of the Academy of the Holy Names, Julia Jacintho Couto of Robinson High and Hilary Ward Sedgeman of Tampa Preparatory School.
Young Women of Promise is an annual Athena-sponsored scholarship program begun in 1981 to honor high school juniors who have demonstrated outstanding scholarship and leadership in the community. The winners are selected from a field of nominations submitted by guidance counselors from public and private high schools throughout the county.
