DAVIS ISLANDS - Bayshore Little League kicked off the 2009 baseball and softball seasons Feb. 21 on the Bayshore Majors Field with 36 teams made up of 450 players.
Michael Polo, president of Bayshore Little League, honored Jorge Ramirez and Scott Meckley for their dedicated service and leadership to youth baseball.
He also announced the Junior All Star boys of last season, who won the state championship, and the 9/10 All-Star boys who won District 6 and Section 7 championships.
Olivia Butler sang "The Star-Spangled Banner," and the first pitches were thrown by Majors All-Star pitcher Matt Vaka and former U.S. national softball star Lyndsey Klein.
The ceremonies ended with the tradition of all players throwing their hats in the air, many more than once.
