SOUTH TAMPA - Academy of the Holy Names hosted its annual Visiting Artist Program on Feb. 20, featuring a reception, lecture and slide presentation by Sister Paula Turnbull, a sister of the Holy Names and sculptor from Spokane, Wash. The event highlighted Sister Paula's long and successful career as an artist.
Sister Paula works out of her studio in Spokane, and her work can be found in private and public collections throughout the United States, Canada and England.
She earned a master of fine arts degree from Siena Heights University and received an honorary doctor of laws degree from Gonzaga University in 2006. She recently was commissioned to create a sculpture for the Spokane City Parks Department and soon will begin work on a figure of Father Cataldo, a 19th century Jesuit missionary to the Nez Perce tribe of the Northwest.
The reception marked the sixth annual Visiting Artist Exhibit.
