SOUTH TAMPA - The fashion show season is in full swing, with groups planning events to showcase spring collections and raise money for the charities.
Some events are:
•Karamu Fashion Show, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 2 at Saks Fifth Avenue, WestShore Plaza.
The free event will feature gowns and designer dresses appropriate for Karamu, the Lowry Park Zoo fundraiser.
It also will have men's wear and show how a shirt can be created using animal prints.
The fashion show, open to the public, is free. Information about Karamu, set for April 18, will be available at the event.
•Fashionollia'61, sponsored by the Tampa Woman's Club, on April 4 at the Doubletree Hotel, 4500 W. Cypress St.
A social hour begins at 10 a.m. when the boutique opens with vendors showing products and handmade items. The luncheon and fashion show are at noon.
Tickets are $50, and patron tickets are $100. Proceeds will benefit the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities, Project Return, Kids Charities of Tampa Bay and Camp Boggy Creek. For tickets, call (813) 839-7457.
•Lights, Fashion and Hope, sponsored by The Lamplighters, from 6 to 9 p.m. April 21 at Saks Fifth Avenue, WestShore Plaza.
This new event showcases spring fashions with informal modeling, food, cocktails, entertainment and a cigar bar.
Jeanne Dowdle and Helen Raterman are chairwomen of the event, which will be used to assist children at Metropolitan Ministries and Joshua House.

•Sixteenth annual Fashion Show Luncheon & Silent Auction, sponsored by the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary, April 23 at the Doubletree Hotel.
The event begins at 11 a.m. with a silent auction with items from Busch Gardens, sports teams and retailers. The luncheon and fashion show, with clothes from Coldwater Creek, will be at noon.
Tickets are $50; patron tickets are $100; and table sponsorships begin at $500.

Pediatric Group Gives Awards
The Pediatric Cancer Foundation recently presented its Spirit of Hope Award to Tampa residents Steve Yerrid and Manuel Garcia.
The Spirit of Hope Award was created to honor people who have shown outstanding support of the Pediatric Cancer Foundation and who are committed to helping find a cure for childhood cancer.
Yerrid has been involved with the foundation for more than 14 years. He sponsors the foundation's annual Fishing Derby, where dozens of children who are battling or who have survived cancer gather for a morning of fishing with local celebrities.
Garcia has served on the foundation's board of directors. He also has served as vice chairman of the board of directors at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute.
'Cuba Particular' Reception Friday
YBOR CITY - The Tre Amici at the Bunker, 1907 N. 19th St., will have an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday to showcase the exhibit "Cuba Particular" by David Audet.
The collection features a black-and-white photo essay of Cuba with a look at the private side of the island. Cuban composer and musician Alfredo Rivero will perform.
Sacred Heart Alums Plan Mass, Brunch
The Sacred Heart Academy Alumni Association will have its annual Mass and brunch Sunday for former students and guests.
The Mass will be at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 518 N. Marion St., and the brunch at 12:30 p.m. at Palma Ceia Golf & Country Club, 1601 S. MacDill Ave.
The event will include the association's annual meeting, and classes of 1939, 1949, 1959 and 1969 will be honored.

Alegria Hosts Event For Kids Foundation
YBOR CITY - The Krewe of Alegria will host a social Thursday to raise money for Kids Foundation, a 3-year-old charity dedicated to educating children on safety issues and raising community awareness.
The event, open to the public at no charge, will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Green Iguana, 1708 E. Seventh Ave. It will feature appetizers, drink specials and door prizes.
The foundation also will host the Run for Innocence Fun Run/Walk on April 11 beginning at the St. Pete Times Forum. Information will be available at the social about participating or volunteering.
The krewe's charity project, Kickin' for Kids, has provided thousands of shoes for needy children. Bring a new pair of children's shoes and/or a cash donation to the krewe and receive an Alegria 2009 calendar.

Wine Tasting Set For April 2
Fine Wine & Spirits Warehouse will host a wine tasting from 6 to 8 p.m. April 2 at the home of Mike Kwasin, 3613 S. Beach Drive.
The event, open to the public, will feature appetizers and more than 40 wines from around the world. Suggested donation is $25 per person or $40 per couple.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Voices for Children and the guardian ad litem program. They will be donated in memory of Judy Dibbs, a volunteer who died last year. For information, call (813) 837-8941.
Art Showcased At Women's Club
BEACH PARK - Members of the Beach Park Women's Club will show their work in an art show at Friday's meeting of the organization.
The event begins with social time at 10:30 a.m. and concludes with a luncheon at noon.
Sandi Wallace is the luncheon hostess, assisted by Mary Bessent, Liz Cristofano, Francine Dobkin, Ann Guether, Arleen Hatton, Ann Joyce and Marilyn Silverman. Betty Cox is in charge of the guest book. For information, call (813) 639-1776.
Garden Groups Plan Programs
TAMPA - The growing season is here, and garden groups are talking about spring flowers and other topics. Some programs are:
•The Davis Islands Garden Club, at 10 a.m. April 1 at its clubhouse, 81 Columbia Drive.

•The Tampa African Violet Society, at 7 p.m. April 1 at the Ragan Community Center, 1200 E. Lake Ave.
