SOUTH TAMPA - Sweetbay Supermarket celebrated Earth Day by participating in a canvas bag conversion with Macfarlane Park Elementary School. Sweetbay donated 400 canvas fold-away bags in exchange for more than 10,000 plastic bags the school collected between February and May.
"We like to partner locally with schools, especially those seeking to make a positive change that supports their community," said Mike Vail, president of Sweetbay Supermarket. "Schools like Macfarlane Park are going the extra step and making a difference every day."
Sweetbay donated the 10,000 plastic bags from the canvas bag conversion program to Metropolitan Ministries and Faith Ministries for the homeless. Sweetbay also planted a magnolia tree at Macfarlane Park as a token of its appreciation and support for making a positive change.
