SOUTH TAMPA - Keep Hillsborough County Beautiful, an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, is introducing a new environmental program into the high schools of Hillsborough County called the Keep Our School Beautiful Chapter Program.

The KOSB program shares current environmental issues, opportunities and practices with area youth.

"Our intention is that through hands-on participation in these programs, students will be more environmentally aware and better equipped to communicate the issues to their peers," said KHCB education coordinator Pat DePlasco.

The goal of the KOSB Kids chapter is to encourage high school students to take an active role in the environmental health of their community by mirroring the mission of KHCB, which is to prevent litter, promote recycling and conservation, clean up and beautify the community through action, education, awareness and by fostering stewardship. The students achieve this by participating in cleanup and beautification events, attending an environmental conference and mentoring peers. KHCB also encourages the students to participate in recycling and waste reduction at their schools.

For information about the chapter program, call (813) 960-5121.
