Ballast Point Elementary School observed Veterans Day on Tuesday with an assembly and program to salute the service and efforts of members of the nation's armed forces.
The PTA, along with Ballast Point administrators and staff, acknowledged the pride and honor with which veterans established and maintain the freedom we enjoy today.
As part of the celebration, the school held a Veterans Day poetry competition, with the winning entries published in the Veterans Day program. The winners were second-graders Dazhane Williams and Robert Cooney for "V-E-T-E-R-A-N-S" and fourth-grader Tara White for "Fighting for Me and You."
FIGHTING FOR ME AND YOU!
By Tara White, Mrs. Farias' fourth grade
Our colors are red, white and blue
Our heroes protect us, it's true!
They'll fight through the night until it is bright.
Oh, how I love them! They protect us, they do!
They may wear green or navy blue,
They're not like us they can't come home too soon.
Some of them die. At least they try.
They are fighting for me and you. Thank them truly.
They deserve it! They won't stop, they won't forfeit!
They are fighting for me and you.
You and me ... or should I say you and I?
We just know they're on our side.
You should love them, respect them.
Do you know why? Because ...
They are fighting for me and you!
V-E-T-E-R-A-N-S
By Dazhane Williams and Robert Cooney, Mrs. Tigget's second grade
Veterans Day is a big day to celebrate
Every man and woman who fight to save our
country
The veterans gladly serve our country and
Every soldier respects America
Really protecting our country
All Americans should honor them
Never forget the battles
Say hooray for Veterans Day
