UT CAMPUS - The Henry B. Plant Museum will have two special events within the next two weeks.
On Tuesday the museum will celebrate what would have been Henry Plant's 109th birthday with free admission to the museum and a 10 percent discount in the museum store. The museum will offer cupcakes and punch on the veranda from noon to 2 p.m.
The museum store also will present "A Day of Holiday Shopping" from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 2.
The store has new merchandise, including holiday accessories, and is offering a 10 percent discount on all purchases.
Homemade delicacies are offered all day, with wine and cheese served at dusk. Local artists Emmy Acton, Lea Davis and Lana McLaurin will showcase their full lines of custom-made jewelry.
Kay Culbreath Heller, a rare prints and map dealer from Franklin, Tenn., also will display her pieces. John Cinchett, author of "Vintage Tampa Signs," a photographic book, will sign his book from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Lunch of quiche, fruit salad, dessert and beverage will be served on the veranda. The cost is $12, and reservations deadline is Oct. 29. Call (813) 258-7302.
The Henry B. Plant Museum interprets the turn-of-the-century Tampa Bay Hotel, which opened in 1891, and the lifestyles of America's Gilded Age.
Friends unveil Burgert calendar
YBOR CITY - About 75 members of Friends of the Library and guests gathered recently at J.C. Newman Cigar Factory to unveil the cover of the Burgert Brothers calendar.
The calendar of historical photographs features the factory on the cover.
Former Hillsborough County Commissioner Jan Platt, who serves as president of the support group, said this is the 13th year of the calendar.
"We started it to raise awareness of the Burgert Brothers collection and to raise money to restore the collection," Platt said at the Oct. 8 reception.
Andi Blount and Gwen Lazzara served as co-chairwomen of the calendar, on sale at local public libraries for $5. Platt also was honored for her service to the organization.
The following night Platt was honored by the Life Enrichment Center, where she serves as an honorary board member. That reception, which also included an art show and sale, was held at TECO Public Art Gallery.
Vegas Night benefits scouts
DOWNTOWN - The Gulf Ridge Council BSA will have its first Vegas Night from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday at the Hyatt Regency downtown.
The event, open to the public, will include music, a silent auction, hors d'oeuvres, an open bar and casino games beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Jewelry show benefits Hospice
SOUTH TAMPA - Life's Treasures, the LifePath Hospice thrift store at 1918 S. Dale Mabry Highway, will hold a Jewelry Extravaganza Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday
The extravaganza will feature estate jewelry and new pieces at reduced prices. The collection includes designer replicas, necklace and earring sets, bracelets, rings and more. All proceeds from the event help pay for programs and services of LifePath Hospice. The organization provides end-of-life care for about 1,200 patients each day in Hillsborough County, supporting patients and their loved ones as they face the challenges of life-limiting illnesses.
The store opens at 10 a.m. each day and closes at 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and at 5 p.m. Saturday and Monday, For information, call (813) 259-1028.
Church plans fall festival
INTERBAY - South Tampa's 45th Annual Fall Festival will be Thursday through Sunday on the grounds of St. Patrick's Church, 4520 S. Manhattan Ave.
The event includes food, rides and entertainment. Friday night will feature Wing It, a southern rock and dance group. T-Willie of Willie Tones will entertain Saturday night and Ray Gurka will play acoustical guitar music Sunday.
Specialty dinners prepared by the Men's Group will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. from Friday through Sunday. Hispanic food will be available Saturday afternoon, and barbecued items will served all weekend in addition to the usual festival fare.
Friday and Saturday will include a yard sale in the church social hall.

Kiwanis clubs plan chicken BBQ
SOUTH TAMPA - Local Kiwanis Club of Tampa volunteers will gather at Raymond James Stadium at 2 a.m. Thursday to cook between 13,000 and 14,000 meals to raise money for children's charities.
The Kiwanis Club of Tampa's 41st Annual Chicken Barbeque Fundraiser will sell boxed meals to Tampa residents and workers through pick up or delivery all day at $8 a meal.
The meals will be available from 11:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at One Mack-Cali Building, 501 E. Kennedy Blvd. They also can be picked up at the stadium from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Delivery is available if 25 or more meals are ordered.
Kiwanis International is a global, nonprofit organization with about 8,000 clubs in 96 countries. Members work with children and communities to develop future generations of leaders through example, guidance and financial support. The name Kiwanis is a Native American word meaning "we share our talents."
Museum director addresses club
BEACH PARK - Todd Smith, executive director of the Tampa Museum of Art, will speak at Friday's meeting of the Beach Park Women's Club.
The meeting will be at the group's clubhouse, 801 S. West Shore Blvd. Social time is at 10:30 a.m.; the meeting at 10:45; and lunch at noon.
The luncheon hostess is Janice Lindgren, who will be assisted by Cheryl Adams, Ann Geuther, Fran Hand, Jill Oransky, Debbie Porter, Cindy Ruff and Bobby Ann Tarcza.
Alice Teagle will serve as greeter and Anne Stanley is in charge of the guest book.

Luncheon raises money for nonprofit group
YBOR CITY - It's All About Kids, which serves the University Area, will have its annual fundraising luncheon Nov. 2 in recognition and honor of its sponsors, partners and supporters.
The event will be at the Children's Board of Hillsborough County, 1002 E. Palm Ave. Doors will open at 11:15 a.m., and the program will be at 11:30 a.m.
A silent auction, exhibits, recognition awards and an appearance by the organization's mascot, Buzz The Bumble Bee, are planned as part of the luncheon to raise money for afterschool programs for children and parents.
