Tampa Prep offered advice

SOUTH TAMPA - Tampa Preparatory School alumnus Lee Hower, Class of '96, addressed the opening convocation of school on Aug. 20 in the Walter Gymnasium. Looking back on his time at Tampa Prep, Hower formed a philosophy that has stayed with him: Act short term but always think long term.

Before the assembled school community, Hower spoke about his experience as a technology entrepreneur. "As a startup guy, whether you're the CEO or the most junior engineer or marketing person, whatever you do today will have a tangible impact on that little company," he said. Hower is a co-founder of LinkedIn and other social networking startups.

The Convocation included a welcome by Kevin Plummer, head of school, and by Glenn Vaughn, president of the board of trustees. Student Body President Raoul Rao addressed his fellow students, introducing the theme for the year: integrity.

The convocation was followed by a dedication of a 2008 Olympic dive team autographed shirt in honor of Tampa Prep graduate and Olympic diver Chris Colwill, Class of '03.
