Cool! The fall social season is here

TAMPA - The calendar shows it is officially fall, so many groups are into fall fundraising mode, with plenty of events during the next two weeks.

The events include:

•Photo Mojo 2009, the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts' annual event.

The fundraiser and photography auction is from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the rooftop lounge of downtown's newest residential high-rise, The Element.

Dress is Florida cocktail wear for the evening that features hors d'oeuvres, wine and music by Paul Wilborn and Blue Roses, with vocalist Eugenie Bondurant, and Frank Bowman on the clarinet, saxophone, brass and drums.

A live and silent photograph auction also is planned. This year's partner in the Photo Mojo auction is the Tampa Bay chapter of the American Institute of Architects, with proceeds from the auction to benefit both groups.

•Fall banquet, sponsored by the Tampa Chapter of Ducks Unlimited.

The event, at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 1 at Higgins Hall, 5225 N. Himes Ave., features dinner and a live auction. Proceeds benefit the conservation program of the organization.

•Awards party for Voices for Children, which supports the Guardian Ad Litem program.

Paul Chai, Jeffrey Jacebs and James Quintessenza will be honored with the Champions for Children Award at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Renaissance Tampa International Plaza.

Jeanne T. Nate will be named the Guardian Angel recipient at the celebration, which includes hors d'oeuvres, beer, wine and champagne. The dress is "classy chic."

•Cross & Shield, benefiting Tampa Catholic High School.

This year's gala, at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 3 at Higgins Hall, features the theme TC Through the Years. It includes a silent auction, cocktail hour, seated dinner, live auction and dancing to Otis Velt and the Old School Band.

Juan and Jenifer Prado are the event chairmen. Tickets are $125; sponsorships are available. For ticket information, go to www.tampacatholic.org/crossandshield.

•Brews by the Bay: Oktoberfest 2009, benefiting The Florida Aquarium.

The event, featuring more than 30 hand-craft beers, food from a dozen restaurants and live entertainment, will be from 8 p.m. to midnight Oct. 3 at the aquarium.

Robinson celebrates 50{+t}{+h} birthday

INTERBAY - Administration, staff, students and the first classes of T.R. Robinson High School will sponsor a 50{+t}{+h} birthday celebration at the school, 6311 S. Lois Ave.

The event, open to the public free of charge, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the school auditorium. The celebration includes a program, tours, displays of memorabilia and a birthday celebration in the cafeteria.

Attendees are asked to park in the gym/auditorium area off Lois Avenue. Overflow parking will be in the rear lot off Mango Avenue near the football field.

Pumpkin Patch is this weekend

SOUTH The Bloom Garden Shop will host A Fun Pumpkin Patch Fall Event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The event includes games for children and photo sessions for children and pets in the pumpkin patch. A portion of the proceeds will benefit The Children's Home.

Educators plan Oct. 31 brunch

TEMPLE TERRACE - Five local chapters of Alpha Delta Kappa, an international honorary organization of women educators, will have a Founder's Day Brunch on Oct. 31 at the Temple Terrace Golf & Country Club.

The officers of the countywide organization are Gwen Mora, president; Anne Newsome, treasurer; Kristi Ehler, secretary; and Anne Porter, chaplain.

Luncheon proceeds go to scholarship

TAMPA PALMS - The Hillsborough County Democratic Women's Club will salute the service of the late Phyllis Busansky at its annual luncheon.

Part of the proceeds will be used to establish a scholarship at the University of South Florida in her name.

The event is from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 3 at Tampa Palms Golf & Country Club, 5811 Tampa Palms Blvd. Tickets are $40 and available by calling Bernadette Storck at (813) 968-8533 or Patricia Maloney at (813) 962-2563.

Dollar General provides grant

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation has awarded Missionary Society of Salesian Sisters Inc. in Tampa a $2,500 youth literacy grant.

The grant provides money to schools, libraries and nonprofit organizations to establish or expand literacy programs. The Salesian Sisters is one of 1,101 organizations to receive a grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation in 2009.
